Almond: A Gentle, Natural Facial Scrub

Gentle exfoliation is one key to a smooth, youthful complexion. Try adding a little ground Almond to your favorite liquid facial soap to make an all natural facial scrub. Almond‘s nutrition and ability to soak into the skin and rejuvenate make it a terrific follow-up to that Almond Facial Scrub.

If you want to add extra zing to your facial treatment, combine the almond with honey instead. It is sticky to apply but the combination of scrubbing power with honey’s antimicrobial power is hard to beat. A basic formula is 1/4 cup of honey with 2 -4 tablespoons of ground almond. Apply this mixture to the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin liberally in a circular motion. Be gentle around the eyes. Use a warm, wet cloth to wipe off the mixture after it has set for a few minutes. Pat your skin dry with a clean, dry cloth.

People with heat sensitive skin such as those with rosacea might consider combining almond meal with yogurt. Use a plain, probiotic rich yogurt and add more more ground almonds than in the honey mixture as the smoothness of the yogurt will cancel out some of the exfoliation power of the almonds. Yogurt also contains lactic acid, which is an alpha hydroxy acid found in many prescription skin creams.

Rub a dime-sized amount of Almond oil into your fingertips, and gently pat it on your skin, paying attention to any areas that feel dry or tight. Try adding a drop or two of your favorite essential oil to the almond oil to make it an extra special treat.
