Candace said: As one new to keeping chickens (but with a little bit of duck-tending experience), I loved Barbara’s approach to tending the flock. She’s strictly an urban farmer, and her approach is particularly suitable to those folks who straddle the line between happy pet owner and content farmer. She offers a lot of sound advice on how to best navigate city ordinances with regard to urban hens plus resources that can help you research your town’s laws. I loved her practical, family-oriented approach. This was an easy and fun read that offers up a wonderful view into the world of chic chicks and their urban digs.

Sue said: This a lovely little book for beginning chicken tenders. I have to admit by the time I was given this book, I already had a small library of chicken books. I viewed the book with a weathered eye. This book has all the basics for new chicken owners.

I enjoyed the antique chicken-related ads that are strewn through the books as illustrations.  The photos are not spectacular but also not abundant. The writing style is fresh and friendly. My complaint is that some of the suggestions for problem-solving are for problems that in all my years of chicken herding, I have never encountered.

The bottom line: We give Keep Chickens! by Barbara Kilarski 2 thumbs up.
